Become a highly skilled biomedical scientist
Biomedical Science is at the centre of modern science. Through this profession, you could identify outbreaks of diseases, uncover breakthroughs in medicine and determine the effectiveness of a patient’s treatment.
With this degree, you’ll be at the heart of all medical research and highly valued in the healthcare sector. If you see yourself as a problem solver, have a passion for science and a deep interest in how the body works, Biomedical Science could be the route for you.
Gain a solid understanding of how the human body works
On this highly practical degree course you will be equipped with the real-life skills that employers are looking for through a combination of high-quality classroom and laboratory skill sessions.
You鈥檒l learn about the latest technologies being applied in the biomedical science field to improve diagnoses and treatments in our new purpose-built laboratory facilities using specialist scientific equipment. In your final year, you鈥檒l carry out your own research project and look at how research can be applied to commercial settings. An optional one-year placement will be available after completion of the first three years.

This course is delivered by experienced staff, including Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientists, who are highly regarded in their fields.
You鈥檒l be taught by research-active academics and conduct research alongside our biomedical science experts as part of your degree. Our team will support you in achieving your learning goals and work with you in developing your study skills and ability.

Course specific costs
- One uniform will be provided but you are likely to require additional uniforms which cost in the region of 拢30.
- The University will pay for an occupational health assessment, however you may need to pay for immunisations if they are not covered by your GP.
- You will need a pair of suitable comfortable shoes while on clinical placement and studying in our simulation settings (estimated cost 拢40- 拢60).
- You will need to purchase some of your own clinical items, for instance a stethoscope and fob watch (estimated cost 拢30).
- You will need to be able to travel to your placement.
NHS Learning Support Fund
You will receive at least 拢5,000 a year, with further funding available for eligible students. You can .
